Tavair
small carrier

Reasons for development
The Tavair class carriers were developed by the Centauri as a modern and relatively inexpensive aircraft carrier to reinforce their fleet. In 2298, the weakened Centauri had the remnants of a powerful offensive fleet, mostly medium strike ships. The Republic lacked multifunctional ships capable of colony defense, fleet support, and patrol duty.

First modifications
The new carriers were relatively modest in size and carried an initial 32 Rutarian class heavy fighters, but there was insufficient space to maintain so many combat vehicles inside the ship, leading to frequent problems. The Tavair carriers were later retrofitted with the latest drones, which took up less space, were easier to maintain, and did not require a large crew. This eliminated the problems with the first series and increased the effectiveness of these combat vehicles.

Modifications
Three series, but it’s not over yet
A total of 16 vehicles were built (2 series of 8 vehicles each). The first series underwent modernization in 2314, right after the second series was built. The interior was redesigned from housing Rutarians to Xoeni drones.
In 2342, the Centauri Republic went into a phase of active fleet buildup, which started production of the 3rd series of Tavair class carriers – 8 more vehicles.
Thus, it was planned to have 24 small carriers of this class in the fleet with a total fighter force of 1104 Xoeni class drones.
With the construction of the third series, the Centauri launched an active phase of the Republic’s new fleet buildup.

Total produced
In total, as of 2341, Centauri shipyards had produced 16 of these ships. In 2342, construction of 8 more units began.

Idea: Drond
Designer: Mikhail Ivanov
Year (idea/model): 2009/2022
Description: The plan was to give the Centauri a relatively small carrier that could perform a variety of functions from localized strike operations, to supporting full-scale fleet operations.
